Fish Ladders

Before installation of the fish ladder, the Eastside Canal diversion posed a barrier to upstream fish passage.

Trout Unlimited installed two fish ladders in the Salt River watershed to allow for fish passage through previously impassable irrigation diversions. Bypassing these barriers allows trout and other species to access upstream habitat for spawning and other life history needs and improves the overall resiliency of the population. Tributaries and spring creeks provide the majority of spawning habitat in the Salt River watershed, so freedom of movement for fish species to access this habitat is critical to maintain healthy populations. The Eastside Canal diversion ladder increased fish movement to access Willow Creek, Stump Creek, numerous spring creeks, and other
